Upon further contemplation, I find autobiographical, biographical, or psychological fiction to be solid yet not fully revealing literary categories of my debut novel, Xiandriรฉ Ramsรจs (2019). At the time of releasing my novel with kotharipublishing.com, a publishing house where I serve as managing editor, as well as the time of releasing an inclusive collection of works, Rรฉ, a Journey (2022), with Book Locker, Inc., I was receptive to less flexible interpretations of my literary work. As a palpable outcome of this reflection, I perceive my novel as serving the endeavors of literature and artistry in that the style is emphasized equally as the narrative flow of the writing, and thus come to observe my novel from the vantage of cascading metres of poetic prose woven as a sequential and dramatic narrative.
While heroic, fictional, and non-fictional prose refer to writing in irregular, unrhythmic, or ordinary language, poetic prose refers to a hybrid composition of ordinary and rhythmic expression. An admirable display of this technique is found in the rhetoric of several of Dr. Kingโs written and oral essays, e.g., โPower without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.โ Quoting from my novel, โSome mornings, we would find the small growing pumpkins hollowed out in its gut, left to rot in the heat; we knew not which animal or life stole its way into the garden to beat us to the pumpkinโs tasty goods. We didnโt care or worry. Nature is flirtatious and promiscuous with its friends and beneficiaries; it thrives off adulteryโs variety and creativity and dies in the arrested hands of fidelityโs starvation.โ
Mastering this technique can be arduous because it requires compositional knowledge in music and linguistics. I grew up with twelve years of musical training on the piano instrument. This education has provided me with an appreciable understanding of metre, rhythm, tempo, melody, and base, as well as managing pace in legato style, allowing me to write language and express motifs without disturbing the fluidity of sequential sentences and paragraphs, blunging harmony with prose and prose with philosophy, psychology, and romance.
